PC problems can be annoying and irritating and can be very serious if they are not tackled in the correct manner. Slow responsiveness and speed, startup issues, random error messages popping up on your screen and even the formidable blue screen are very common computer problems and can be easily fixed. A common computer problem eventually after time will run your PC into the ground.

The majority of these computer problems are caused by the computer registry and having a knowledge about this component will help you in understanding how these issues can arise. The Microsoft Windows registry is the most crucial element of your system and without it your computer would cease to function. It runs at the heart of your system and it contains all of the hardware, software, configuration settings, user settings that is needed by your computer. It is a database that the computer accesses to find the relevent files in order, for example, to change the desktop wallpaper for a user profile or load up an application.

Problems arise very simply because the registry processes thousands of entries daily, some are made redundant and are no longer needed. Yet because of the nature of how the PC functions, unfortunately some of these entries are still left behind. These lead to slower read times due to the system trying to access old disused entries. This happens on a huge scale so over time the problem worsens until lesser PC problems such as slow performance issues could eventually lead to system crashes and even evoke the Windows blue screen.

You can manually declutter your Windows registry but I would not advise you to unless you are 100% competent. The safest and easiest manner to fix your Windows registry is to use a Windows registry cleaner. These can be downloaded from the internet and yet of course, some are more advanced and enhanced than others.

Features of a Registry Cleaner:

-Scans your Windows system registry for redundant, obsolete and malicious entries. These entries cause the PC problems and the registry cleaner will scan deep within the database to find these problematic files.
-Creates a registry backup. This is essential in case the scan fails midstream or your computer crashes during the registry clean. The registry can be restored back to it’s last state from the backup file.
-Defragments the Windows registry. Just like defragmenting your system’s hard drive, the registry cleaner will re-organise your registry to a manageable, effective and economic manner.
-Scheduled scans for the not so well organised users. Automatic scheduled scans can be set at what intervals you want to perform the registry scan.

There are many registry cleaners online so take some time out to research what is available and which one best suits you. For further help and information please visit www.computerresurrection.com/registrycleaners.html.

Do I Genuinely Need A Windows Registry Repair Tool?

Over time you would have noted common computer problems starting to appear on your PC. This is a normal occurance with a PC and the more you use it, the slower the speed and performance will become leading to more problems. It is a vicious circle and the general point of reference to these common computer problems is the Windows registry.

Computer problems such as startup issues, performance problems, freezing screen, blue screen or those annoying error messages can all be caused by the registry so lets explain what the Windows registry does.

It is a huge database at the heart of your computer’s system that stores all of the hardware and software configuration settings, the user settings and the system’s security and policy settings. Everytime an application is launched by the user, the Windows registry is conferred to in order to initiate the task. Without the registry your computer would not function. Over time the registry grows due to the amount of operations that are asked of it and because of this errors begin to occur within it. Unwanted and invalid entries get left within the system registry causing dead readings, and these are the issues that cause your common computer problems to occur.

For example, deleting a program instead of uninstalling it leaves many traces of the program within the Windows registry. This is a prime case of leaving invalid entries within the registry.

To fix registry errors you can choose to download a top registry cleaner from the net. This is by far the easiest and safest manner in which to fix your registry. Registry repair tools scan your PC system registry for the unwanted and obsolete entries. With a few clicks of your mouse you can resolve the issues within the registry very simply, which in turn gives way to a more optimized and higher performing computer.

A decent windows registry repair tool will backup your existing registry before it starts to clean it. In case anything should malfunction during the cleaning process then the backup copy can be re-instated without causing any major problems with your system. This of course is an absolute necessity and without a backup file you may never be able to recover your data.

The registry repair tool will also defragment your registry. This puts the entries within your database in the most readable and obtainable order. Consider putting dozens of files into a filing cabinet without some sort of structure and then days later trying to find where you put them. It would take a long time. Categorizing your files gives you an easy filing system, much the same as defragmanting your registry.

There are many Windows registry repair tools to fix your registry problems and unless you are a very competent computer engineer then I do not advise you to try and manually fix the registry yourself. A reputable registry cleaner is the safest and most reliable way to restore your computer’s performance.

Fix Registry Problems – Do Registry Cleaners Work?

The issue of whether Registry Cleaners will fix  registry problems and speed up a PC has been debated at length with some users reporting a successful registry repair and others little improvement or even that the state of their PC was made worse.

Registry Cleaners scan the Keys and Values in the registry and report (then delete) any invalid, redundant or corrupt data which may affect the operation of the PC.  They may also defragment the problem registry to make it more efficient.   However, there is no way to know for sure what is redundant or invalid and there is a temptation for companies to make their software more “aggressive”  so that it finds more “registry problems” than its competitors.   It also seems that some registry cleaners over-rate the severity of a registry problem to suggest that a registry repair is urgent.

If Registry Repair Software is too aggressive it may delete something that is needed by a program (or windows itself) thereby making the PC unstable.  If it is not aggressive enough it will not clean the registry properly.  Whilst most Registry Cleaners offer the user the chance to control what is deleted, in practice most users will go with the program’s suggestions.  There is therefore always the risk of damage to the PC.

However, this does not mean that Registry Repair Software should be avoided.  Almost all suppliers allow you to download the program and run a free scan, so you get the chance to see if it is user friendly.  You can also see what it thinks of the “health” of your registry before deciding whether to use the program to fix windows registry.

The good Registry Cleaners will allow you to backup the registry and will also do this automatically before running a registry repair (i.e. before making any changes to the registry).   This means that you can restore the old information if you experience problems afterwards.

My view is that it is well worth trying  a Registry Cleaner if you need to fix your registry (see “What is the Windows Registry” and “Using a PC Registry Cleaner“) but you should:

  • Only use a recognised product from an established vendor – these will be easy to use
  • Ensure that the registry is backed up before being cleaned (the software should be able to do this) – so it can be restored if there are problems afterwards
  • Look for products with a money back guarantee – so if it doesn’t work you can get your money back.

See “Best Registry Cleaners“.
